Lisa Lerkenfeldt is a composer and performer based in Melbourne. Her endless piano and tape loop variations dissolve time through collages of decayed ambience, analogue manipulation and cyclic structure. Informed by patience and a tactile elegance, Lerkenfeldt has been working with extended durations and electroacoustic techniques since her debut ‘A Liquor Of Daisies’ on Shelter Press in 2020. Following a residency as guest composer at INA GRM Paris in 2024, a new work for piano and 6-channel electronics has its Australian premiere at Art Gallery of New South Wales and the National Gallery of Victoria this season.
"An ivory hued fever dream."
- Boomkat
"Fantastic, aesthetic, immersive. This year's
best modern classical ambient daydream.
- Meditations
"Lerkenfeldt's music can feel like the most
plangent piano chords from all the most
beautiful deep house songs in history,
left to flood and decompose."
- Resident Advisor
“Her work combines traditional instrumentation
with experimental techniques, emphasising sound’s
physicality and cyclical structures. At her residencies
in Paris and Melbourne, the latter At The Above,
she integrates historical and contemporary influences,
working with restored pianos, analogue hardware,
and modern technology. “

“Zone-outs of the highest order exercising the
most undervalued of characteristics: restraint.”
